I heard the verse, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Then I began to wonder Just exactly what to do and be.

I tried to be the truest, But I felt like such a liar.
I tried to be the tallest, But the others towered higher.
I tried to be the brightest, But I always had the blues.
I tried to be the biggest, But I could not fill the shoes.
I tried to be the strongest, But I could not handle the load.
I tried to be the fastest, But I hit some bumps along life’s road.
I tried to be the first but found That others had finished before.
I tried to be the most, But others always seemed as more.
I tried to be the best, But I felt like I was failing.
I tried to be the last Then turned around and saw others trailing.
I tried to be the weakest But discovered I was not.
I tried to be the slowest Then noticed others at a dead stop.
I tried to be the smallest, But still some were smaller than me.
I tried to be the shortest Then looked down and saw reality.

I saw that God wanted me to be better – Not better than the rest, But better than who I used to be– Better than myself.
